Dr. Eugene “Gene” Saltzberg, MD, is a distinguished emergency medicine physician known for his decades-long commitment to advancing clinical care, medical ethics, and physician training. With board certification in emergency medicine since 1987, Dr. Saltzberg has played a pioneering role in shaping the specialty from its formative years through to modern best practices. He currently serves as an associate professor at Chicago Medical School, where he leads instruction on emergency diagnostics, critical thinking, and systems-based care.Dr. Saltzberg’s career spans clinical service in both civilian and federal healthcare systems, including care for military families and underserved communities. He has held key leadership roles, including chief of staff at Condell Medical Center, and contributed to shaping emergency department operations and policy. A founding member of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine and a fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians, he remains active in national initiatives focused on ethical standards, clinician well-being, and healthcare policy reform.Outside of academia and clinical practice, Dr. Saltzberg is a dedicated community health advocate, serving as medical director for Lambs Farm, a residential center for adults with developmental disabilities.
